Alexander Technique
What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is a simple but effective method of recognising and un-learning old, unhelpful habits, both physical and mental.
This method can be used to get to the root of joint and muscle pains, addressing the causes rather than the symptoms. It can help with stress and anxiety by teaching you to recognise and adjust detrimental tendencies in your day-to-day. It can also improve performance and reduce the risk of injury for musicians, performers and sportspeople, by showing you how to carry out your work with minimal effort and tension.
As an Alexander Technique teacher, I am an objective pair of eyes, there to help you recognise - without judgement - the habits you carry around without realising you're doing so. I will show you how to carry out your activities with less tension and discomfort, more freedom and awareness, through a combination of hands-on teaching and discussion.
Who is it for?
We are all products of our own unique collection of habits! This means that the Alexander Technique can be helpful for anybody, because its principles are universal.
Performers:
I specialise in working with performers, with the benefit of my own classical music background. Some studies have reported that more than three-quarters of musicians experience pain after playing their instrument, and many do not get the help they need to deal with this problem. A course of Alexander Technique lessons equips you with the tools you need to spot harmful tendencies in your playing before they cause lasting damage, as well as strategies to tackle practice in a more healthy and constructive way.
Offices:
With many hours of desk-work comes the potential for serious muscular pain and discomfort. The Alexander Technique can help you bring healthier habits into the workplace, alleviating tension and preventing future pain. Through simple and gradual changes, you can learn to sit, stand, and move with ease, allowing you to carry out your work in a healthy, efficient, and sustainable way.
Children:
I also offer lessons especially designed for children, drawing on my eight years' experience working in education, based on play and creativity. The Alexander Technique can help develop posture, co-ordination, concentration, self-confidence, and many other elements that help a child thrive.
I offer individual lessons, as well as regular group sessions and one-off workshops for all the groups mentioned above. Contact me below to find out more.
Qualification
I have undertaken a four-year, 1,600-hour training course at the Alexander Technique Training Centre (Ausbildungszentrum für Alexander Technik) in Berlin, which is internationally recognised and accredited by the Alexander Technique Affiliated Societies. I am a member of the German Alexander Technique Society (Alexander Technik Verband Deutschland / ATVD).

Testimonials
"My experience with the Alexander Technique was very pleasant. The explanation, the terminology, and the images that were used during the presentation all helped me understand the teaching easily. For an introduction, everything was clear and concise; I really believe that I benefited from it and gained new knowledge, as very often we do things on 'autopilot' and this technique gives you the alternative option of making different decisions, with your body as well as with your emotions." - Ana
"It was really an incredible experience. I wasn't aware of this technique and the course helped me so much with awareness regarding y body's natural posture. It's incredible how by leaving your body alone, it relaxes and takes on its natural posture, can alleviate tensions and pains, as well as making you feel better in many ways. Without a doubt it's something I'd like to keep learning." - Karen
"One of the most interesting parts of the course was when we explored the connection between our body and our mind. Through simple exercises we learned to free the tension that we often carry without knowing. This made me take notice of how our posture can influence the way that we feel." - Cynthia
"A wonderful evening and a soothing introduction to body awareness and how my spine exists day to day." - Workshop participant
"Rosie is a very knowledgeable teacher, who is able to explain this technique in an easy to digest way. You are warm, welcoming and inspiring!" - Asten
